Thank You, Billings

The 2010 Mill Levy Election is in the books and we won our key race, the Elementary General Fund Levy, by a 2,609 vote majority. It was one of the highest voter turnouts in Billings’ school election history.  The Yes for Kids campaign garnered more than 750 endorsements, distributed 1,520 yard signs, generated 1,600 followers on Facebook, spoke to more than 30 organizations, and had countless media appearances and letters to the editor.

We are especially proud of the more than 400 volunteers who spent untold hours writing 20,000 hand-written postcards to their neighbors personally asking for a YES vote.  This grassroots effort was a key to our success. Our volunteers also went door-to-door and worked with the elementary PTAs to distribute fact sheets and answer questions.

It is our hope that this campaign, with its focus on generating support at the grassroots level, will lead to more engaged and involved school supporters.

While we are pleased with the outcome of this election, we know that our work has just begun.  Many challenges are ahead, but this campaign is a great model for the success we can have working together as a community on behalf of our kids.  Let’s savor the outcome as we continue forward with a goal of making our school district one of the most respected in the nation.

Sincerely,
